Yen Rebounds as Oil Falls Ahead of Key BOJ Rate Decision

The Japanese Yen is showing signs of recovery as falling oil prices ease pressure on inflation and traders prepare for the Bank of Japan's upcoming policy decision.

The Japanese Yen is regaining ground against the US Dollar as falling oil prices and expectations of another Bank of Japan rate increase bring the currency back into focus. USD/JPY recently traded around 156 after the pair climbed sharply following the Federal Reserve's hawkish policy signal. The Fed raised rates by 25 basis points and indicated that another increase could be possible later this year, initially supporting the Dollar. Attention is now shifting toward the Bank of Japan. Markets expect the BOJ to consider raising its policy rate to 1.25%, with Governor Kazuo Ueda's guidance likely to be closely watched for clues about the pace of future tightening. Oil prices are also becoming an important FX driver. A decline in crude prices has reduced some immediate inflation pressure and helped the Yen recover from recent weakness. Changes in energy prices could influence both Japanese inflation expectations and global central-bank policy expectations. MarketMindFX View: USD/JPY remains highly sensitive to the difference between US and Japanese rate expectations. The 156.00 area is an important near-term level, while 155.00 and 154.50 could become support zones if Yen buying strengthens. Key Levels: USD/JPY Resistance: 156.00, 157.00 USD/JPY Support: 155.00, 154.50 Traders should monitor the BOJ rate decision, Governor Ueda's comments, Japanese bond yields and oil prices for the next major Yen move.
