Dollar Holds Near Multi-Week Highs as Traders Await Fed Rate Decision

The US Dollar remains near multi-week highs ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision, while traders assess the outlook for further rate hikes and the impact of elevated energy prices.

The US Dollar is holding near multi-week highs as global currency markets await the Federal Reserve's latest interest-rate decision. The dollar has gained support from rising Treasury yields and renewed expectations that US policymakers may continue tightening monetary policy as inflation pressures remain elevated. The US Dollar Index is trading around 99.60, while the 10-year US Treasury yield has moved close to the 5% level. Markets are largely focused on the Fed's rate decision and, more importantly, the guidance that follows from policymakers. The Japanese Yen remains under pressure near 155.50 per dollar, although expectations of further Bank of Japan tightening could limit the downside. Traders are also monitoring potential intervention risks and changes in Japanese interest-rate expectations. EUR/USD is trading near 1.1550 after recently touching a one-month low around 1.1523. Sterling is also being closely watched after UK inflation accelerated in August, while the Bank of England prepares for its upcoming policy decision. Energy prices remain another major FX driver. Brent crude is still above $100 per barrel, keeping inflation concerns elevated and influencing expectations for central-bank policy across major economies. MarketMindFX View: The next major directional move in the Dollar could depend on the Fed's policy guidance rather than the rate decision alone. Traders should watch Treasury yields, the Fed's economic projections and comments from policymakers for confirmation of the next trend.
