US Treasury Yields Hover Near 5% as Oil Reignites Inflation Concerns

The US 10-year Treasury yield moved close to 5% as higher crude prices revived inflation concerns and markets reassessed the Federal Reserve's next policy steps.
US Treasury yields remained elevated as higher energy prices revived concerns about inflation and the possibility of additional Federal Reserve tightening.
The 10-year Treasury yield approached 4.97%, close to levels not seen since 2023. The move followed a rebound in Brent crude above $100 and renewed uncertainty surrounding energy supplies.
The relationship between oil and bond yields has become particularly important during the current geopolitical shock. Higher crude prices can feed into headline inflation and make central banks more cautious about easing financial conditions.
The Federal Reserve raised its policy rate last week and officials have continued to emphasize inflation risks. As a result, traders are paying close attention to every change in energy prices and inflation expectations.
Higher Treasury yields can also support the US dollar by increasing the relative return available on dollar-denominated assets. At the same time, elevated yields can put pressure on equity valuations and other risk-sensitive markets.
MarketMindFX View: The 5% threshold remains a major psychological reference for the 10-year yield. A sustained move above it would reinforce the market's focus on inflation and Fed policy, while a retreat could ease pressure across global markets.
