Oil Slips Below $103 as Saudi Supply Fears Ease — FX Markets Watch Inflation Relief

Brent crude fell to around $102.53 as expectations of recovering Saudi supply outweighed renewed Middle East tensions, creating a fresh cross-asset signal for currencies and central banks.

Oil prices extended their decline on Friday, giving FX traders a fresh macro signal as concerns over Saudi supply disruptions eased. Brent crude fell about 2.2% to around $102.53 per barrel, while WTI slipped about 1.8% to near $100.04. The decline came as reports pointed to efforts to restore part of Saudi Arabia's damaged East-West pipeline capacity and move crude through alternative shipping routes. For forex markets, the pullback in oil matters because energy prices remain closely linked to inflation expectations. A sustained decline in crude could reduce some pressure on central banks to keep tightening, while another supply shock could quickly reverse that effect. The move also comes as major central banks remain in focus. The Federal Reserve has signaled further tightening, while the Bank of Japan raised its policy rate to 1.25% on September 18. This leaves energy prices as an important variable for future rate expectations and currency volatility. MarketMindFX View: Oil remains highly sensitive to geopolitical headlines and supply developments. For FX traders, the key question is whether crude can remain above $100 or resumes its earlier climb toward the recent highs.
