Gold Slides Below $4,300 as Higher Yields Lift the Dollar

Gold weakened toward $4,300 as higher Treasury yields and expectations for another US rate increase reduced demand for the non-yielding metal.
Gold prices came under renewed pressure on Tuesday as rising Treasury yields and expectations for additional US monetary tightening reduced the appeal of non-yielding bullion.
Spot gold was around $4,319 per ounce in early trading after earlier weakness, while US gold futures traded near $4,356. The market remains sensitive to every shift in expectations for the Federal Reserve.
The Fed raised rates by 25 basis points last week and maintained a warning that inflation remains a concern. Markets are now pricing a substantially higher probability of another increase in December, keeping real yields and the dollar important drivers for gold.
Geopolitical risk continues to provide a counterweight. Middle East tensions and uncertainty around energy supplies can support safe-haven demand, but that support can be overwhelmed when yields rise quickly.
The dollar index was around 100.5, adding another headwind for bullion because a stronger US currency makes gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
MarketMindFX View: XAU/USD is testing the area around $4,300. A sustained move below that level would put $4,250 in focus, while recovery toward $4,400 would indicate that safe-haven demand is regaining control.
Key Levels:
Gold Support: $4,300, $4,250
Gold Resistance: $4,400, $4,450
