Dollar’s Oil Shock Rally: Why USD/JPY Is Back Above 154

Dollar’s Oil Shock Rally: Why USD/JPY Is Back Above 154

The US Dollar strengthened as renewed Middle East tensions pushed oil above $107 and boosted safe-haven demand. USD/JPY is back near 154.60 ahead of this week’s Fed and BOJ decisions.

The US Dollar started the week on a stronger footing as renewed Middle East tensions pushed crude oil sharply higher and increased demand for safe-haven assets. The Dollar Index moved toward 99.60 while USD/JPY rebounded toward 154.60 after the Japanese Yen recently reached a seven-month high. Brent crude climbed above $107 per barrel as fresh concerns over energy supply disruptions increased market uncertainty. For forex traders, the important factor is the relationship between oil prices, global bond yields and central-bank expectations. Higher energy prices are lifting inflation concerns and keeping yields elevated, while risk aversion is providing additional support to the US Dollar. The Japanese Yen still has an important catalyst ahead. Markets are watching the Bank of Japan closely for a potential rate increase, but the latest oil-driven risk-off move has temporarily strengthened the Dollar against the Yen. MarketMindFX View: USD/JPY is entering an important high-volatility zone. A sustained move above 154.60 could open the way toward 155.00, while a break below 153.50 would indicate renewed Yen strength. The Federal Reserve decision and Bank of Japan decision are likely to determine the pair’s next major direction. Key Levels: USD/JPY Resistance: 154.60, 155.00 USD/JPY Support: 153.50, 153.00 DXY Psychological Level: 99.00 The biggest wildcard remains crude oil. If Brent stays above $100, inflation expectations could remain elevated and influence both Federal Reserve and Bank of Japan policy expectations. Traders should therefore monitor oil, US Treasury yields and USD/JPY together. Source: Reuters and market data, September 14, 2026. MarketMindFX analysis.
