Dollar Holds Near 99.60: Why Fed Guidance Matters More Than Today’s Rate Move

The US Dollar is holding near a two-week high as markets prepare for the Federal Reserve decision. With a rate hike largely priced in, traders are focused on the Fed's projections and guidance for the months ahead.

The US Dollar remains firm near a two-week high around 99.60 as traders prepare for the Federal Reserve's September policy decision. The central bank is widely expected to raise interest rates by 25 basis points, but the reaction in foreign exchange markets could depend more on the accompanying guidance than on the rate move itself. The US 10-year Treasury yield recently moved above 5%, its highest level since 2007, as higher oil prices revived inflation concerns. Brent crude remains above $100 per barrel, adding another layer of uncertainty to the inflation and monetary-policy outlook. For the Dollar, the key question is whether the Fed signals that additional tightening may be required. A hawkish message could keep Treasury yields elevated and support the DXY, while a less aggressive outlook could encourage profit-taking in the greenback. EUR/USD is trading near the 1.1530 area, while USD/JPY remains close to 155.50. These major pairs could experience significant volatility when the Fed publishes its decision, economic projections and policy guidance. MarketMindFX View: Traders should watch the difference between the expected rate decision and the Fed's forward guidance. If the policy statement and projections point to persistent inflation risks, the Dollar could remain supported. If policymakers emphasize that today's move is sufficient, the recent dollar rally could lose momentum. Key Levels: DXY: 99.60 immediate zone, 100.00 psychological resistance EUR/USD: 1.1530 support area, 1.1600 resistance USD/JPY: 155.50 resistance, 154.50 support Oil and Treasury yields remain the two important cross-market signals. A renewed rise in crude or US yields could reinforce Dollar demand, while a sharp decline in either could reduce the greenback's current support. Source: Reuters and FXStreet, September 16, 2026.
