Brent Reclaims $101 as US-Iran Talks Put Supply Risks Back in Focus
Brent crude rebounded above $101 as traders weighed potential US-Iran talks against continuing disruptions to Middle Eastern and Libyan supply.
Brent crude recovered above $101 a barrel on Tuesday as investors balanced possible diplomatic progress between the United States and Iran against continuing disruptions across the oil supply chain.
November Brent futures rose about 1.3% to $101.63, while the October WTI contract gained about 1% to $96.70. The rebound followed four consecutive sessions of declines.
Potential US-Iran discussions at the United Nations General Assembly are being watched closely because any improvement in relations could reduce some geopolitical risk premium in crude. At the same time, supply remains vulnerable to disruptions in the region.
Libya's Sharara oilfield also faced an outage after an armed group closed a pipeline valve, cutting production by roughly 200,000 barrels per day. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, has increased shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, although exports remain below pre-conflict averages.
For financial markets, the direction of Brent matters beyond energy shares. Higher crude prices can lift inflation expectations, potentially keeping central banks more restrictive and influencing currencies, bond yields and equity valuations.
MarketMindFX View: Brent's $100 level remains an important reference point. Holding above it would keep supply risks visible, while a sustained move below $100 would shift attention toward diplomatic developments and restoring disrupted flows.
Key Levels:
Brent Support: $100.00, $98.00
Brent Resistance: $103.00, $105.00
