Oil Market Update — November 4, 2026
Crude oil prices recovered on Wednesday after recent declines as traders evaluated geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, US election results and the latest industry inventory figures.
Brent crude futures increased approximately 0.7% to $104.36 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude gained around 0.7% to $96.72 per barrel during Wednesday's Asian trading session.
Middle East Tensions: Investors remain concerned about the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran and the potential consequences for regional energy infrastructure. Recent US strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island have increased uncertainty, although officials described the operations as limited and defensive.
Strait of Hormuz: The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical route for global energy shipments. Any prolonged disruption to shipping activity could tighten international oil supplies and increase transportation and insurance costs.
US Crude Inventories: Data from the American Petroleum Institute indicated that US crude inventories declined by approximately 5.27 million barrels during the week ended October 30. This was significantly different from market expectations for an increase of approximately 880,000 barrels.
Gasoline inventories increased by 1.43 million barrels, while distillate inventories declined by approximately 1.19 million barrels. Official US Energy Information Administration inventory figures were scheduled for release later Wednesday.
Diplomatic Developments: Qatar has continued mediation efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran. However, a senior Iranian official indicated that both sides remain far from reaching an agreement to end the conflict.
WTI Crude Outlook: US crude prices remain sensitive to domestic inventory figures, refinery demand, production expectations and developments in international energy markets.
What Traders Should Watch: Important catalysts include official EIA inventory data, developments around the Strait of Hormuz, further US-Iran diplomatic discussions and changes in OPEC+ production expectations.
Market Outlook: Oil prices could remain volatile as traders balance geopolitical supply risks against the possibility of diplomatic progress. A sustained disruption to energy shipments could support higher prices, while progress in negotiations could reduce the geopolitical risk premium.
